Important

What We Don't Treat — Call 999 or Attend A&E

Private urgent care isn't a replacement for emergency medicine. If you have any of the following, call 999 immediately or attend your nearest A&E. Our clinic is not equipped or staffed for life-threatening emergencies.

Call 999 or attend A&E for:

  • Severe chest pain or suspected heart attack / stroke
  • Severe breathing difficulty
  • Major trauma or heavy bleeding
  • Loss of consciousness or collapse
  • Severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Children under 1 year
  • Arrival by ambulance

If you're unsure whether your symptoms need urgent care or A&E, call NHS 111 for free clinical advice. They will direct you to the right service.

Your Visit

What to Expect

Most patients are seen, treated, and on their way within an hour. Book your visit or walk in during opening hours.

Step 1

Arrive & Check In

Walk in or check in at reception. A nurse assesses your condition and prioritises your care. If you've booked online, your slot is held — no waiting in the queue.

Step 2

Assessment & Diagnostics

An experienced emergency medicine doctor examines you, takes your history, and arranges on-site tests as clinically indicated — bloods, X-ray, ECG. Most results return within the hour.

Step 3

Treatment & Next Steps

Your doctor provides treatment, arranges prescriptions from our on-site pharmacy, and organises specialist referrals through Centennial's specialist consultant network if needed.

How to See Us

Walk In, or Book a Same-Day Slot

When We’re Open

  • Mon–Fri: 8am–8pm
  • Sat–Sun: 9am–6pm
  • Open 7 days, including bank holidays.

For times outside our hours, contact your GP, call NHS 111, or — for life-threatening emergencies — call 999.

Walk In or Book Online

Our clinic operates as a walk-in — arrive during opening hours and you’ll be seen on a first-come, first-served basis after triage. If you’d prefer a guaranteed slot, book online or call us.

For urgent care that genuinely won’t wait but isn’t life-threatening, walking in is fastest. For routine same-day care where you’d rather pick a time, booking online is the better option. Either way, payment is taken securely at the time of booking or on arrival.

Who You’ll See

Experienced Emergency Medicine Doctors

Our clinicians are GMC-registered emergency medicine doctors — the same specialists who staff hospital urgent care and emergency departments — bringing the diagnostic confidence of acute medicine into a private clinic setting. Each clinician is supported by experienced nurses and reception staff trained in clinical triage, so urgent presentations are recognised and prioritised on arrival.

We’re part of Centennial Medical Care, one of the longest-established private medical clinics in Borehamwood, with more than 70 consultants and healthcare professionals across 26 specialties. If your visit reveals something that needs ongoing specialist care — cardiology, orthopaedics, dermatology, paediatrics — we can arrange that referral immediately, no external letter needed.

Our clinical team for the September 2026 opening is being finalised. Each member’s qualifications, experience, and photograph will be published as they join — register for updates.

Insurance and Self-Pay

Submit-Receipt Insurance, Transparent Self-Pay

How insurance works at our clinic

We’re a self-pay clinic. You pay at the time of consultation, and we provide a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. We don’t currently offer direct billing — patients tell us this is faster overall, since you don’t wait on insurer pre-authorisation before being seen.

Most major UK private health insurers (BUPA, AXA Health, Vitality, Aviva, WPA, AIG) reimburse private urgent care consultations under their out-patient or self-referral allowances. Coverage varies by policy, so we recommend confirming with your insurer before your visit if reimbursement timing matters to you.

If you have any questions about your policy, our reception team is happy to help — 020 3327 7777.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment to be seen?

No. Our clinic operates as a walk-in — arrive during opening hours and you'll be seen on a first-come, first-served basis after triage. If you'd rather have a guaranteed slot, book online or call 020 3327 7777. Either route gets you a same-day consultation.

How quickly will I be seen?

Most patients are assessed and treated within an hour of arrival. Triage on arrival means urgent presentations move to the front. If your case needs onward specialist review, that referral happens during your visit — you don't wait for a second appointment.

What's the difference between private urgent care and A&E?

A&E treats life-threatening emergencies — chest pain, major trauma, suspected stroke. Private urgent care treats everything that's urgent but not life-threatening — minor injuries, infections, suspected simple fractures, urgent prescriptions. We're not a replacement for A&E; we're an alternative for the cases that don't need it. If in doubt, call NHS 111.

Do you treat children?

Yes — children aged 1 and over. Our doctors are experienced in paediatric urgent care. We don't see children under 1; for younger infants, contact your GP, call NHS 111, or — in an emergency — call 999 or attend A&E.

Can I get an X-ray, blood test, or ECG without a GP referral?

Yes. All our diagnostics are available during your consultation if clinically indicated, at the doctor's request — no separate referral letter needed. Most results are reported within the hour, so we treat the same day.

How do I claim back through my insurance?

We'll give you a detailed receipt with diagnosis codes and treatment summary at the end of your visit. Submit that to your insurer for reimbursement. Most major UK insurers cover private urgent care consultations under out-patient or self-referral allowances — confirm with your provider before your visit if reimbursement timing matters.
